Talk The Talk is an education charity providing staff and students with a range of practical oracy workshops closely aligned to the National Curriculum. Our workshops hone communication skills and support a consistent approach across all subjects throughout schools in England & Wales, which are delivered by our group of professional trainers. Talk The Talk started in 2013 and is now well established across more than 200 secondary schools who pay 50% of the costs with the balance covered by charitable sources and earned income. We have successfully navigated our way through the pandemic and are proud of the fact that we have continued to deliver in-person workshops in schools as restrictions allowed.

The Role

As our new Development Director, reporting to the Executive Chair of Trustees you will lead Talk The Talk at an exciting point in the charity’s progress as we implement our growth development plan. The charity is in a strong position with reserves set aside and strong workshop bookings for 2021 – 2022. We aim to grow our range of activities over the next 3 years to influence and encourage many more young people to achieve our mission of ‘confident communication for life’.

Responsibilities

  • To lead Talk The Talk growth development plan
  • To further define and implement a clear marketing plan to achieve the growth plans
  • To have fundraising responsibility to meet our growth development plan
  • To be the ‘face’ and ‘voice’ of Talk The Talk
  • To manage relationships with key stakeholders, interested parties and future funders
  • To lead and manage the Talk the Talk team
  • To work with the Executive Chair of Trustees and report to the Board
  • To take responsibility for the ongoing quality of the programmes we run

 

Person Specification

Essential
  • Proven leadership skills through previous experience of leading and managing organisations and implementing strategic plans
  • Excellent communication skills, both internal and external to the charity including familiarity and comfort using virtual communication tools
  • Good networking skills demonstrated by a strong network of contacts relevant to Talk The Talk
  • Experience with the development and successful delivery of marketing plans that has had significant impact on both brand awareness and increased sales. Plus, strong generalist marketing skills gained in your given sector. Demonstrating experience of developing and implementing lead generation strategies
  • Previous experience in successful fundraising demonstrated by previous success in attracting funding partners
  • People management skills through previous experience of leading and managing teams
  • Ability to work and run the charity in a remote environment

 

Desirable
  • Familiarity with working in a UK based charity
  • Background or experience of leadership in the education sector
  • Ability to deliver workshops into the education sector
  • Development & quality assurance skills to maintain the quality of the customer experience
  • Reporting to Boards of Trustees
